2nd Screen Apps & A New Mindset

Succinct article from RAI on the need for sychronized 2nd Screen Apps and a “new mindset” from broadcasters…this is a major focus for zyntroPICS and our contentAI platform, where the ability to “extend story” across screens was the raison d’etre for building the platform.

Of course, we see that that “new mindset” needs to begin with writers, directors and producers — both from long-form, short-form and ad-content.

Nice wrap up in the article about the obvious questions:

What can third-party apps provide that a broadcaster cannot?; What can programme owners/originators provide that third-parties cannot?; and What is the market for synchronised advertising, and who gets the money?

Time…Interpretation…Music…Emotion & Story

This blog tends to mirror our contentAI blog - But it’s time to start differentiating it a bit.

We’ll drop in posts here, from time to time, that may not be business-specific, but, are in the spirit of “story” and emotional resonance.

Time, story and music are fascinating in a whole new way, as current Artists cover classics (bringing memory forward) and as older Artists continue to collaborate and bring freshness to older material – The fluidity of interpretation is fairly unique to music…but, it’s one of the most emotionally compelling story formats we enjoy…

QR and 2D Tags: Bridges to Transmedia Storytelling

We’ve been fans of 2D/QR Tags for almost two years and it’s great to see them moving into the marketplace and gaining some early traction in the States.

The reason for their appeal is that a 2D/QR Tag creates a “bridge” between two Worlds:  Print and Mobile.  As Producers with a background in cross-platform (transmedia) storytelling for nearly 15 years, in the past, we’ve dealt with disconnected platforms…now, 2D/QR Tags provide a “bridge” between two prime story locations.  Basically, adding a “bridge” to span one media to another makes “transmedia” more intuitive for the End User.

What will this look like?

The most basic example is the Children’s cereal box.  They are deeply engaging and almost always include some storied elements.  With a 2D/QR Tag you can migrate the User to a complementary and allied interactive story on a mobile device.  Done well, the User will acquire story information from the mobile experience that will help them complete their understanding of the story on the IRL physical box in front of them.

Because a bridge, once built, allows you to travel in both directions.

Please visit our imprint:  http://contentAI.com to see how we are creating interactive mobile stories that can bridge to the real world.

Interactive Television and Storytelling

In association with our allied venture, contentAI studios, the Production and Writing team @zyntroPICS have been developing original franchise properties for cross-platform storytelling.    Based on the company’s experience with internet television properties, the goal has been to evolve and converge interactive storytelling in association with internet television.  The “passive” nature of internet television seems antiquated.  We want it to be directly engaging based on story, not just ads (though, this makes for a very interesting ad unit).

What will the experience be?  While watching a video series, the User will be able to Pause the video and then directly engage in a conversation with the on-screen Character through text or voice.  Contingent on the outcome of the conversation, upon triggering PLAY, the video will branch and trigger a specific sequence.

2010 looks like a great year.
